About the GPS Receivers

The GPS receivers provided are professional grade survey GPS units capable of achieving 7mm + 1ppm accuracy.

Battery & Charging

Both GPS receivers will be shipped fully charged.  However it is always good to confirm that the units are fully charged before starting to collect data.  Press the power button once to check the status. The lights above the power button indicate the battery charge level. A fully charged battery will last up to 16 hours.

Not enough charge to boot

Battery can charge over USB-C port directly from a laptop or a power bank, or from a wall plug using a usual smartphone charger.

Turning GPS on and off

Turn on the GPS receiver by holding the power button (the only button) for approximately 3 seconds.

The light sequence below indicates that the receiver is loading.

Loading

Once the receiver has loaded it will automatically collect GPS data.

Base Setup

Do not power on the base unit until the Ground Control Point has been prepared.  Power on the base unit and immediately center in on the Ground Control Point by placing the 4 legs on the black and white intersecting lines.

The low profile setup and level Ground Control Points insure accurate data collection.

The base must be operational for a minimum of 4 hours

Rover Unit

Do not power on the rover unit until the Ground Control Point has been prepared.  Power on the rover unit and immediately center in on the Ground Control Point by placing the 4 legs on the black and white intersecting lines.

The rover unit must be on for a minimum of 7 minutes.  Set your timer and once complete turn the rover off.
Repeat this above process for each Ground Control Point until all have been surveyed.

Do not keep the rover turned on between survey Ground Control Points. Doing so may lead to inaccurate calculated positions on the Ground Control Points

Notes & Sketch

It’s important to sketch where the GCPs are placed and when the GPS units where turned on and off in order to be able to post-process all the GPS data.  In the kit you received there’ll be a couple blank sheets to be filled in.  These can also be downloaded.
